21/64 Approach Training – Certified Advisors of Color Program

About the Program

With the intention of taking responsibility for evolving the field of philanthropic advising, the 21/64 Certified Advisors of Color Program is a leadership development opportunity dedicated to the training and advancement of Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) identifying professionals and advisors working with philanthropic families and individuals in the field.

Objectives

21/64 established a national Advisory Committee, who are instrumental in shaping and supporting the program since its launch in 2020.

Since then, 21/64 convenes an annual cohort and builds a network of BIPOC-identifying professionals in philanthropy and advising to:

  • Inspire participants to courageously draw upon their lived experiences and the multiple facets of their identities to inform their work, so as to be relational and transformational in their interactions with donors, clients and colleagues;

  • Learn 21/64’s Approach and acquire personal skills, generational awareness, and technical tools to work more effectively with next-generation funders and multigenerational family enterprise clients;

  • Build social capital through a peer learning model to provide a trusting learning environment, to explore ideas, navigate challenges, adopt new strategies and advance their careers;

  • Hone participants’ personal narratives to help them articulate their vision as philanthropic advisors and in doing so, inspire donors  to diversify their philanthropic investments toward just, equitable and community-led initiatives; and,

  • Build trusting and transformative relationships with donors with whom they work in their communities in an effort to diversify their philanthropic investments.

Testimonials

"Jumi, Andine and Sam. Thank you so much. Y’all held it down. We (participants) did not hold back on the questions and brought the “spice”. You handled our spice very well! Credit to Jumi too for also saying that we’re all trying to figure it out together. It shows that y’all really live up to your values and doing this authentically. You are doing at this as people of color and understand the specific experience we need for this training. You intentionally created this space for us. It shows that you are committed to being a disruptor in the sector and also…. kind of a healing force. Y’all making this work a little different for us and are helping us radically imagine what this work could really look like for us."
