Emily Modrall, PhD, is a philanthropy advisor to individuals, families, and private foundations. She supports clients in articulating goals, creating philanthropic strategies, making gifts, and establishing grant programs. In her work at Legado Family Office Management, Emily builds and oversees clients’ grant programs, conducts organizational research, interfaces with grant seekers, and meets with clients to create or refresh their vision for their philanthropic impact and legacy.Â
Emily holds a PhD in Mediterranean archaeology from the University of Pennsylvania, an MPhil in Classics from the University of Cambridge, and a BA in Classics from the University of Michigan. Her academic fieldwork and research was funded through grants and fellowships, which gave her firsthand experience in fundraising and a deep appreciation for funders’ generosity and commitment.
Emily has worked with a variety of nonprofits as a volunteer and board member, and managed a venture capital firm’s corporate philanthropy prior to joining Legado Family Office Management in 2025.
Committed to active community engagement, Emily currently sits on three nonprofit boards and runs a volunteer public history project. She and her family live in Traverse City, Michigan.
