Growing up with wealth and philanthropy in your family or coming to it early in adulthood can feel like both an opportunity and a responsibility for the next gen donor. Many next generation want to honor where they’ve come from as well as develop their own philanthropic values and identity.
At 21/64, we have learned that a peer group model is an especially effective forum for next generation learning and growth. Next gen donors can explore the messages and legacies they were raised with, articulate their current philanthropic values, and develop their own philanthropic vision moving forward. We convene and facilitate our own retreats, philanthropic events, and ongoing peer networks, as well as help other organizations do the same. This allows next gen donors to grow individually and as a community, while developing their philanthropic skills, clarifying the roles they want to play in big giving, and building a network of like-minded peers.
Objectives for next gen donors.
To build a network of next gen donors in similar positions of philanthropic opportunity and responsibility
To create a space where members can learn with their peers and outside of their family
To invite participants to ask their own questions and explore philanthropic values and approaches
To develop a philanthropic analysis and capacity for strategic thinking
The NextGenDonors Retreat is for next gen donors (ages 21 – 40) who are or will be stepping into roles in their family’s philanthropy and for donors who are earners themselves and want to clarify their philanthropic values, identity, and direction. Grand Street is a retreat and ongoing network for Jews (in their 20s and 30s) who are or will be involved in their family philanthropy. Grand Street allows participants to explore questions of their Jewish identity, family responsibility and philanthropic opportunity in a safe space among peers. PJSF x 21/64 Board Leadership Course
Nonprofit board participation is a big responsibility, and individuals joining boards for the first time can feel unprepared to adopt the role of board member with confidence. We are proud to announce that 21/64 has partnered with the Paul & Jenna Segal Foundation to create a course that empowers the next generation to serve as leaders in the nonprofit community, and to acquire the skills and know-how to be successful board members. Gen Impact Accelerator
For donors of all ages and stages, 21/64 and The Philanthropy Workshop are co-delivering the Gen Impact Accelerator, a multi-generational experience to align your values with your giving and effectively allocate your resources to make an impact. This program, content, and community are all keenly designed to clarify your philanthropic identity and incorporate a strategic roadmap in your practice to transform your plans into effective grantmaking and investing. Gatherings and Retreats.
One or two day gatherings for 21- to 40-year-olds in similar situations of philanthropic opportunity to develop skills, acquire tools and leave with greater clarity and next steps to become the donor they aspire to be.
