Peer Consultation for the Learning Community – July 12, 2023

In thinking about the long-term change you want to achieve, what’s getting in the way in your role of achieving that? How would you want to consult your peers on this?

One of the goals of the Learning Community is to bring what you are learning into practice - into the work you each do in the field.  This session aims to provide Learning Community members with the opportunity to consult with peers on a question that you are grappling with in your role, projects or with your clients or donors.

21/64 is offering a framework so that you can practice having dialogue in a structured way, to talk through what you're currently stuck with and gather feedback effectively with peers.  You’ll have the opportunity to share a question that you have been thinking about that’s getting in the way of your work or that’s getting in the way of the change you hope to contribute.

This week, I participated in 21/64’s Talking About Money Training to challenge one of the oldest taboos – money. The team and facilitators are excellent, creative, and very engaging! Thank you to 21/64 for giving me a framework to look at how my own money story informs/inhibits money conversations with my family and clients, and practice facilitating tools to add value to my conversations around wealth, legacy, and philanthropic planning. Other than grad school, it was the best professional development program I’ve ever been a part of.  It taught me a new way of approaching my work and interacting with donor families.

I highly recommend this training, even if you are quite experienced in family meeting facilitation and client management. In addition to providing outstanding content, the training works on almost a meta level — not only are you covering the toolkits and techniques for facilitating family meetings in detail, but in addition you are able to observe skilled facilitators demonstrate these techniques in action as they work with the group. You are able to reflect about yourself and about the approach you bring to client work as you use the tools, and you are also able to learn from and share best practices with the highly experienced group of peers who attend the training alongside you. A highly valuable use of time!
