The Sample
- Most of the next gen donors in the interview and survey samples of this project are inheriting the wealth they use for giving, and others are first-generation wealth creators.
- Most report current personal net worth over $1 million and annual family giving over $250,000, including many whose families give well over $1 million annually.
- About a quarter have a donor-advised fund of their own, and 1 in 7 have a private foundation. Most are involved with funds and foundations created by their parents, grandparents, and others.
- Roughly 90% are Caucasian, and the rest identify with multiple other race/ethnicity categories.
- They live across the United States, but some were born abroad.
- Roughly 3 out of 4 attend religious services at least once a year and/or claim a religious affiliation (nearly all Christian or Jewish), but only about 1 in 4 attend services once a month or more.
- Nearly all of them identify as politically liberal or moderate/independent.
