Silence and Summer, by Danielle Oristian York

“Do not be afraid to disappear, from it, from us, for a while and see what comes to you in the silence.”
– Michaela Coel

These words from actress, writer, director, and producer Michaela Coel showed up in my inbox a number of weeks back in a newsletter. Reading them casually as I scanned the email caused me to sit back in my chair, close my eyes and take a deep breath. Silence is a tool I turn to often as a facilitator for just this reason – it moves folks by causing them to pay attention to different things.
Taking some space away from work during the summer months has long been a tradition of 21/64.  And after two hard years, our dedicated team needs a real pause, an opportunity to disappear a little this summer, and pay attention to areas of life beyond work. I wanted you to know this and what you can expect from us this summer.
  • We’ll close our offices at 1 PM Eastern each Friday until Labor Day.
  • We’ll be encouraging the team to really unplug when on vacation and time away. Expect Out of Office emails to mean 21/64 folks are really away and focused on life outside of work.
  • And to ensure restorative time for our whole organization, we’re closing the offices entirely with paid time off August 29th through September 5th.
I am excited to see what comes next after a little quiet – personally and professionally.  If you’re planning a restful summer and to step back in the fall, I hope you’ll join us. Please see below for some of what we are planning for the balance of the year.

Be well,

Danielle Oristian York
Executive Director, 21/64
