Description

Picture Your Legacy is a deck of 52 colorful image cards* that guides individuals, groups, and families toward articulating a legacy—be it in business, philanthropy, or life. Images can help to stimulate this process by tapping into the right side of your brain and revealing how you aspire to be in the world. We recognize that it’s difficult to start with a blank sheet of paper and write down a vision for your legacy from scratch. How should you approach your giving and wealth planning? Do you engage the next generation(s) in the process? How? When is the right time? Use these cards to catalyze creative conversations among individuals, groups and families of any age and across generational divides. Whether you are looking to realize financial goals, develop your leadership capabilities, clarify your philanthropic aspirations or direct your professional ambitions, these images will allow you to develop language and begin articulating your mission statements, vision statements, charter letters, ethical wills and living legacies so that they will resonate today, while remaining relevant tomorrow.

I worked with the 21/64 staff to customize Picture Your Legacy. We added four distinct Bay Area images to the deck and branded the box with our logo. In addition, I included a card with our mission and in invitation to users to call on of the organization’s professional staff to assist with the exercise and/or with taking the outcomes from it to the next level. The customized decks were so popular, that at the first event, half of my new stash walked out the door with interested clients. There was incredible energy and discussion around the image cards among participants, and who else they wanted to try them with. Many have contacted me since to inquire about how best to use the tool, or if they can purchase them. I love that not only are the decks are so useful, but they are very popular and well received with clients and now have our logo and contact number on them. I highly recommend customization or anyone who regularly uses Picture Your Legacy.

My younger donors love working with the Picture Your Legacy deck. The photographs “speak” to them as they work on developing their philanthropic missions. The cards are so popular that we have broken a deck apart so that participants can take their inspirational photo home with them. Mine hangs in my office as a reminder of our work and your great resources at 21/64.

In my work with boards of directors, I use the Picture Your Legacy cards to facilitate reflection and conversation about succession planning. The tool is designed to help people think with a different part of their brain, get creative, and begin considering the future. It’s been invaluable in my work.

The Picture Your Legacy cards are one of my favorite tools to use. I have found that the sharing portion is very interactive and insightful. One of the most interesting aspects is that even if the same cards are chosen, the stories and reasons are different. Having a visual aid helps people articulate their feelings.

Picture Your Legacy is a great tool to help donors capture the emotion of their giving. I use them together with Motivational Values, first the Values cards, which is a more left-brained exercise, followed by Picture Your Legacy, which is a more-right brained experience. Combined they are an awesome way to help donors better understand their giving.

I use the Picture Your Legacy all the time when facilitating workshops with nonprofit boards. They have been a great tool to help board members dig more deeply into the work of their organization and their own connections to the organization. The Picture Your Legacy cards have helped me to kick off workshops in a way that moves beyond platitudes and canned talking points and gets right to values-based discussions about mission and impact.

The photo cards are a remarkable resource for quickly stimulating thoughtful and engaging conversation about the things that are important to them and why. I have used them numerous times with groups of various sizes, ages and relationships – ranging from family boards to workshop attendees. In all cases the photos quickly enabled a much deeper discussion more quickly than otherwise would have happened. Terrific that they are also available on an app!

The Motivational Values, Picture Your Legacy, and Exploring Wealth decks are particularly valuable when I am helping individuals and couples create charitable estate plans. These tools help to surface the deepest held values, interests and life experiences that then help shape the most meaningful end of life legacy plans.
