Tanja Sarett, M.A, CFRE, is a senior nonprofit leader and an expert in cross-border giving and philanthropy. She is the founder of Synergies in Philanthropy Consulting – a boutique fundraising and philanthropy consulting firm that works nationally and internationally to empower innovative, visionary nonprofits, funders and professionals in the U.S., Europe, and Israel to realize long-term impact.
Thanks to the variety of responsibilities she held over the last 20 plus years, and her combined expertise in both the nonprofit and grantmaking sector, Tanja has become a passionate advocate for a synergy-based and team-centered approach to philanthropy and for creative fundraising solutions. Her professional and consulting work has equipped her to create effective synergies between funders and organizations, an organization’s fundraising work and its critical success drivers, and to prepare both foundations as well as nonprofits for the future.
Tanja graduated with an M.A. in political science, sociology and religious studies from the University in Munich (LMU) and received a diploma in Public Relations from the Bavarian Academy of Advertising and Marketing. She received the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential and is an Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Master Trainer. She holds several certificates, including from IDEO U (Certificates in Advanced Design Thinking and in Creative Leadership), the Institute for Cultural Affairs (ToP Facilitation Essentials), Cornell University (Certificate in Change Management), Support Center (Certificate in Management and Supervision) and NYU (Professional Certificate in Philanthropy and Fundraising). She is also a Liberating Structures practioner.
Tanja is an active member and leader in her community. A longtime volunteer at the AFP Fundraising Day in NY and former Slingshot Guide Evaluator. She co-founded a Jewish community group that she has been co-leading since 2005, and she is an alumna of “The Conversation. Jewish in America”.
