Paula Murphy Ives is a member of the Enterprise Strategic Client Group working with RBC’s leading families to help sustain and build their social capital through multiple generations. In her role as Managing Director, Social Capital and Impact, Paula works with internal and external experts to support clients on their philanthropic journey from discovery, values and mission, landscape analysis, structure and governance right through to impact and collective philanthropy with other local and global change makers.
A professional with significant global experience in philanthropy, sustainability and global governance, Paula has over a decade working on related issues. Working with a global private equity firm, she supported their corporate philanthropy and in Switzerland as Director, she ran a private family foundation for a prominent European family. She has worked with a variety of organizations, from the Canadian High Commission in Singapore and Embassy of Canada in Switzerland to different parts of the Canadian government and the United Nations system, she is passionate about connecting people and issues with resources and impact in a strategic way. A focus of her work is on system change and leveraging multiple assets to move the dial in key issue areas, notably with the UN Global Goals for 2030.
Paula has also supported the work of a number of initiatives including the Elders, the World Economic Forum, the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue as well as international impact with the Canadian film Anthropocene: The Human Epoch. Paula has experience lecturing and research at Universities in the UK, Canada and Asia. She holds a Master Financial Advisor – Philanthropy (MFA-P) designation as well as trainings from Stanford University on Effective Philanthropy and a Graduate Diploma in Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability from St. Michaels College, University of Toronto. Paula holds a Ph.D. in international relations from the University of Cambridge with doctoral work on “Negotiating Global Change”.
