Mary Humann Judson is the founder and principal of Judson Advisory Group, a consulting firm dedicated to assisting families and philanthropic organizations in the articulation and activation of strategies to achieve their philanthropic goals and create lasting legacy.
Prior to founding Judson Advisory Group, Mary was president of The Goizueta Foundation, a private family foundation which was created by the former chairman and CEO of The Coca-Cola Company in 1992. During her tenure, Mary restructured the staff along functional lines and recruited new staff to create an efficient, highly functioning team focused on achieving maximum philanthropic impact. She led a highly collaborative and iterative proposal development process engaging foundation and grantee partners. The resulting grants included eight-figure investments in groundbreaking research in the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and in the transformative redesign of a business education program. Having established trusted and productive relationships across two generations of the family, Mary led the creation of an associate board to educate and engage next generation family members in the work of the foundation.
Mary held previous executive director roles at Jesse Parker Williams Foundation, a private independent foundation, and the R. Howard Dobbs, Jr. Foundation, a private family foundation. For each of these organizations, she served as a one-person office, managing every aspect of each foundation’s operations with a particular focus on grantmaking, but also including oversight of outside advisors providing investment management, legal counsel, and accounting services.
Having worked in the philanthropic sector for two decades, Mary has established a robust professional network and has earned a reputation as a respected colleague. She was a member of the board of trustees of the Southeastern Council of Foundations (now Philanthropy Southeast) from 2010-2016, serving as board chair in 2014-2015. In addition to her professional experience in the nonprofit sector, Mary has served on the boards of Marist School, Reach for Excellence, and the Catholic Foundation for North Georgia.
Mary received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Agnes Scott College and is a 21/64 Certified Advisor.
