Justin recently joined WVDO during the start of the pandemic in May of 2020 as the new Executive Director. Founded in 1977, WVDO is a skill building/professional development nonprofit organization that is committed to promoting racial justice work by supporting our fellow BIPOC and other historically excluded community members to be good and successful leaders, gain access to tools, and grow their network of allies in order to use their power to change structures and systems from whatever professional position they choose to pursue. As a BIPOC majority led organization, Justin will be there with his members every step of the way, developing and learning together.
Prior to joining WVDO, Justin was a Donor Relations Officer at the Oregon Community Foundation, Executive Co-Director of Q Center and Individual Giving Manager at Basic Rights Oregon. As a queer person of color, Justin brings an organizing approach to his professional experiences in development and philanthropy to help further operationalize equity within the organization and uplift equitable practices across sectors.
“In order to have a nonprofit sector whose purpose is transformative and justice-oriented, rather than being rooted in the history of exclusion and oppression, we are all being called to make the choice to end the cycles of oppression within our organizations and communities. The good news is that we don’t have to do it alone and we, here at WVDO, are not. The work we choose to do can be proactive, real, and rejuvenating, creating opportunities for us to collaborate and flex our collective might. Together we hold the power to continue to change our world for the better and the more just.” – Justin
