Jan currently serves as Development Officer and has worked for the Central New York Community Foundation since 2013. Jan works in conjunction with the Vice President of Development and other development staff to support charitable planning for community-minded individuals, families and companies. Jan is primarily responsible for cultivating and facilitating the Community Foundation’s legacy planning program.
In June 2021, Jan achieved the professional designation of Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP®) from The American College. The CAP® certification provides the knowledge and skills needed to help clients and donors achieve their charitable giving goals. Those who achieve this designation have demonstrated expertise in integrating gift planning with financial and estate planning and in helping clients to identify a giving plan. In 2015, Jan completed a Legacy Navigator training program through Celebrations of Life and leads workshops with a focus on personal history storytelling and legacy preservation. Jan is also a member of the 21/64 certified advisors network, which offers facilitated trainings, tools and resources in the areas of multi-generational and family philanthropy and legacy planning.
Jan believes that everyone has a story worth telling and is passionate about the power of stories to inspire generosity, resiliency, empathy and connections among strangers, family, friends and community members.
Jan has a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Studio Art from Binghamton University. She is a recent graduate of Leadership Greater Syracuse Class of 2019 and board member for Syracuse Improv Collective. Jan lives in Strathmore with her husband Patrick, her son Jude and their two cats.
The Central New York Community Foundation is a public charity established in 1927 that collects contributions from donors, manages them to grow over time and then distributes funding to local charities to help them thrive. It is the largest charitable foundation in Central New York with assets of $366 million and has invested more than $220 million in community improvement projects since its inception.
